University Honors Program
The University Honors Program at NC State offers a wide range of unique educational experiences that engage academically-driven students in transformative, hands-on learning.
I joined the University Honors Program because I wanted to go beyond traditional coursework and explore interdisciplinary subjects that challenge my perspective and encourage critical thinking. The program has provided me with opportunities to engage in leadership, research, global exploration, and community service, all of which have greatly enriched my academic journey.

Experiences with UHP
Honors Forum
Honors Forum is a core part of the University Honors Program, providing students opportunities to engage with topics across the arts, sciences, and public affairs through lectures, performances, and discussions. During my time in the program, I attended events that expanded my understanding and appreciation of different disciplines. One memorable experience was a lecture by professional photographer Alex Freeze, where I gained insights into capturing nature’s beauty through the lens. I also enjoyed Broadway plays, ballets, museum visits, and Honors Arts and Crafts events, which allowed me to connect with peers and explore contemporary issues. These experiences have enriched my academic and personal journey at NC State.

Honors Seminars
HON Seminars are a key component of the University Honors Program, designed to foster interdisciplinary research and critical thinking. These small, discussion-based courses help students develop research skills, ethical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities. I took HON 202, "Animals in Words and Images," which explored the representation of animals in literature and media, examining their ethical, political, and cultural significance. I also took HON 398, "Springboard into Research," which prepared me for independent research by introducing essential research methods, design, and data analysis. Both courses provided a solid foundation for intellectual exploration and future academic endeavors, helping me develop as a knowledge-creator.
High Impact Experiences
High Impact Experiences are a core part of the University Honors Program, allowing students to apply learning beyond the classroom while building leadership, professional, and community skills. Honors students complete at least three experiences, with two from categories such as leadership, volunteer service, interdisciplinary learning, professional development, or sustained undergraduate research. During my time in the program, I completed an Alternative Spring Break (ASB) in Rutherford, summer internships (including work with Rural Works), and the Developing Cultural Competence (DCC) Certificate. Together, these experiences challenged me, expanded my perspective, and contributed to my academic and personal growth at NC State.

The Honors Village at NC State is a unique living and learning community that enhances the Honors Program experience by fostering intellectual exploration, personal development, and community engagement. I lived in the Honors Village during my first two years, benefiting from its collaborative and supportive environment. In my second year, I worked as the Community Assistant Coordinator, where I helped manage mail operations and supported residents with their needs. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Honors Village, building meaningful connections and engaging with faculty and Honors staff in a dynamic community.
